IMPORTANT: Apart from filling in the membership form on this page, you also need to complete the payment for the first 2 years of your membership at ESIST via PayPal or bank transfer, as explained below. Please also note that you need to pay the PayPal transaction fee. Thank you.

Application for membership

Application for membership is invited from anyone with an interest in audiovisual translation, be it an academic or professional. Membership is also open to persons residing outside Europe.

What are the benefits of membership?

ESIST membership offers the opportunity to make your views heard and to participate in the development of ESIST. Members also:

  • Receive periodical email shots.
  • Have a cheaper attendance fee at the Languages and the Media Conference and other events supported by ESIST.
  • Have access to information, expertise and assistance in the field of screen translation with particular regard to training and professional standards.

What’s the cost?

We currently operate a two-level membership scheme in recognition of differences across wealth distribution, career stage and access to international networks.

Standard membership fee: 60 EUR per two calendar years, January-December

Fee for members who reside in countries with developed economies or economies in transition as defined by WESP (2022: World Economic Situation and Prospects 2022 (un.org)) and who are not students or early career professionals.

Reduced membership fee: 40 EUR per two calendar years, January-December

Fee for student members, PhD candidates, early career professionals, members who reside in developing countries as defined by WESP (2022: World Economic Situation and Prospects 2022 (un.org)). Early career professionals are defined as members who have been working in the audiovisual translation/media accessibility industry for five years or less. This fee also applies to members experiencing hardship. To apply for the reduced membership fee on a case-by-case basis, please contact the ESIST treasurer.

Members eligible for the reduced membership fee should send proof of their eligibility on payment of the fee to ESIST Treasurer.

How to apply for membership?

Please complete and submit the ESIST membership application form (here below). It will be sent directly to the treasurer and the webmaster of the association, who will add your details to our distribution list. Should you encounter any problems with the registration form, please proceed to payment (see “How to pay the membership fee” below) and contact us via email hidden; JavaScript is required. Please note that you are not a full member and won’t receive email shots from ESIST until you have paid your membership fee.

Once you’ve formally become a member of ESIST, you will receive some of the latest emails we have shared with other members. Your details will be added to our distribution list and you will hear from us from time to time, with information that we hope will be of interest to you.

Please let us know why you are applying for a reduced membership fee. Remember that you will need to submit proof of your status. The reduced fee applies to student members, PhD candidates, early career professionals, members who reside in developing countries as defined by WESP.

How to pay the membership fee?

You can pay the membership fee via bank transfer or Paypal.

If you wish to pay by bank transfer, just email our treasurer, David Orrego-Carmona, to request our bank account details.

Alternatively, to pay for the membership fee by Pay Pal, the procedure is as follows:

  1. Go to the following Internet address: http://paypal.com/
  2. Sign up (or log in if you already have an account with Pay Pal).
  3. Click on Pay or Send Money.
  4. It will ask you for an address. This is the e-mail address where you need to send your membership fee for the two-year membership:

The treasurer will then receive a confirmation message saying that you have sent the money to us. Upon receiving this e-mail, the treasurer and the webmaster will immediately add your name and details to ESIST records.

ESIST membership

To renew your membership, send the payment for the membership fee to davidorregocarmona@gmail.com via PayPal, as detailed in the membership section, indicating your full name and the renewal period. You can also pay by bank transfer - just email our Treasurer David Orrego-Carmona at the same email address to request our bank account details.

You only need to resubmit the Membership application form if any of your details have changed. If your affiliation and/or email address have changed, in addition to filling in the application form, kindly also inform the President Sharon Black via email at info@esist.org
